Here are some photos from the 2009 Good Old Days Celebration in St. Ignatius, MT.

Schock’s Mission View Dairy had a float in the parade celebrating 3 generations of farmers and farming in the Mission Valley. In the parade were Walt and Louise Schock (1st generation), who started the dairy in 1956; Greg and Paula Schock (2nd generation), who currently run the dairy; and Emily Schock, Greg and Paula’s daughter (3rd generation).

Here are a few photos that Greg and Emily Schock took at The National Bison Range on July 11, 2009.

Emily is a wildlife technician at the range.

Second graders visit the farm

The second grade class from St. Ignatius Elementary School visited Schock’s Dairy last week. The Char-Koosta Newspaper wrote an article about their visit and some interesting facts about the dairy.

Schock’s Mission View Dairy was established in 1956 by Walt and Louise Schock. The dairy is currently being operated as a partnership between Walt and his eldest son Greg and his wife Paula.

The dairy is located in western Montana approximately 8 miles from the small town of St. Ignatius.

The nearest city, Missoula, is an hour south, and Glacier National Park is two hours to the north.

The dairy sits on 350 acres, with nearly all of the acreage covered with gravity-flow irrigation.

Crops: Alfalfa hay, grass hay, and corn silage.

Animals: 100 Milking cows
31 Dry cows
50 Heifers bred
50 Breeding age animals
52 animals under 1 year old
2 Bulls
3 Dogs: Ralph, Jet and Henry

Milk produced daily: 5,800 lbs.
Milk produced annually: 2 million pounds (1000 tons)
